Girl, I just Graduado!

Three years ago, I decided to pursue an MBA. When I conveyed my decision to my parents, they were super supportive of me. And today, at the 26th Graduation Day celebration at SSN Institutions, receiving my degree made me realise that I have come full circle. What a day it turned out to be! I still vividly remember the first day my mom and dad accompanied me to enrol in the MBA program in July 2023. Since it was a two-year residential program and my first hostel experience, I was very excited. I had never stayed away from my parents until then. So, they were quite apprehensive about my staying away from them, although they never showed it on their faces. In the blink of an eye, I completed my course, and here I am, receiving my degree along with my parents. Decked up in a salwar suit, I reached the venue with my parents. After taking some customary pictures, which my mom insists on quite often, I completed the registration process and collected my graduation robe. A candid pose! O...

I Am the Brightest Star in My Sky!

There’s no joy quite like finding something we once lost. Lost-and-found things bring joy as well as sorrow. They remind us of memories we either want to cherish or forget. It’s October, a month of festivities in India, which means it’s time for deep cleaning and dusting the entire house (even the corners we never knew existed till now!). Like every mom, desi or international, mine too chided me for not cleaning my bookshelf. I love my books so much so that I practically forbid anyone from touching them. It’s not that I don’t organise them; it’s just that I admire the beauty in imperfection and couldn’t bring myself to make it perfect ;) Alas, moms never understand such aesthetics. They want the house neat, tidy, and organised. If I were to describe my bookshelf, I would call it a treasure trove of happiness. It has 3 rows: the first two with books and the last one brimming with memories. I like to call it, “The Meaning of My Life” . This rack holds hidden answer sheets, m...

Kintsugi

I am back with a new poem! Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, transforming it into something even more beautiful than before. This poem grew out of my own philosophical reflections, but I believe each reader will find their own meaning within it. To me,  faults are a hidden kind of beauty revealed only to those who choose to cherish them. I'd love to hear what meaning this poem holds for you. With love, Yours truly.

Anne with an E: A Heartfelt Ode of Appreciation

There’s always ‘scope for imagination',  says Anne-Shirley Cuthbert. Indeed. Recently, I stumbled upon this Canadian period drama, ‘Anne with an E’, on Netflix. It is a loose adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic, Anne of Green Gables.  I must say, I have a soft spot for classics and period dramas. Be it Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice or Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women , I have loved the adaptations just as much as I have loved reading the books. While it’s true that the two forms offer different experiences, I think they each carry their own unparalleled charm. When I read, I imagine characters vividly — Lizzy Bennet’s wit, Josephine March’s fire — but watching actresses bring those characters to life adds a new layer of meaning. With Anne with an E , I watched the series before reading the books, but that didn’t stop me from ordering the entire collection and getting lost in its pages. This blog is my way of pouring out everything I felt while watching th...

The Enchanting Gulmarg: A traveler's tale

Gulmarg After a light breakfast, we started our journey to Gulmarg. The name ‘Gulmarg’ is a combination of two Persian words: Gul (flowers) and Marg (meadow), hence its name, “The Meadow of Flowers.” Originally, this place was called “Gaurimarg” meaning “path of Goddess Gauri”. Later, in the 16th century, Kashmir ruler Yousuf Shah Chak renamed it to Gulmarg, meaning “path of roses”. Located close to the Line of Control (LoC), Gulmarg is often referred to as a winter destination. But here I was, at this winter wonderland in the summer season!  Gulmarg: The Meadow of Flowers A picturesque view During my journey, I noticed people selling cherries by the roadside. I am not particularly fond of cherries, but the sight of fresh ones tempted me. The cherries were red, plump, sweet, and juicy. They are not like the sour ones we get in Chennai. We bought a box of cherries and munched on them for the rest of the journey. Fresh and juicy cherries Upon reaching Gulmarg, we switched to a union ...
