Wodehouse 101: Laugh, Love, Repeat!

The Inimitable Jeeves

On the eve of Diwali, my dad gifted me the book: The Inimitable Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse. I have heard about him but haven't read any of his books. He is widely regarded as the greatest comic writer of the twentieth century. It is indeed true. I haven't explored the humor genre extensively. So, I gladly picked up the book and started reading. An unputdownable book, I must say. It is a collection of stories revolving around the life of Mr. Bertie Wooster and his incomparable valet Jeeves. Every story gave me a hearty laugh. When I browsed the internet for other works of Wodehouse, I found that this book is a part of the Jeeves and Wooster series. Without further ado, I ordered the second book. Plum Wodehouse's(As P.G. Wodehouse was fondly called) stories are claimed to be the purest form of comedy and believe me, it is no exaggeration. His simplest narrative style coupled with tickling humor is something to cherish with. Now, I am a proud fan of Plum and I would like to call myself a budding Plummy😎. Looking forward to reading all of his 70 novels and 200 short stories to relish the goodness of humor!

Girl, I just Graduado!

Three years ago, I decided to pursue an MBA. When I conveyed my decision to my parents, they were super supportive of me. And today, at the 26th Graduation Day celebration at SSN Institutions, receiving my degree made me realise that I have come full circle. What a day it turned out to be! I still vividly remember the first day my mom and dad accompanied me to enrol in the MBA program in July 2023. Since it was a two-year residential program and my first hostel experience, I was very excited. I had never stayed away from my parents until then. So, they were quite apprehensive about my staying away from them, although they never showed it on their faces. In the blink of an eye, I completed my course, and here I am, receiving my degree along with my parents. Decked up in a salwar suit, I reached the venue with my parents. After taking some customary pictures, which my mom insists on quite often, I completed the registration process and collected my graduation robe. A candid pose! O...

I Am the Brightest Star in My Sky!

There’s no joy quite like finding something we once lost. Lost-and-found things bring joy as well as sorrow. They remind us of memories we either want to cherish or forget. It’s October, a month of festivities in India, which means it’s time for deep cleaning and dusting the entire house (even the corners we never knew existed till now!). Like every mom, desi or international, mine too chided me for not cleaning my bookshelf. I love my books so much so that I practically forbid anyone from touching them. It’s not that I don’t organise them; it’s just that I admire the beauty in imperfection and couldn’t bring myself to make it perfect ;) Alas, moms never understand such aesthetics. They want the house neat, tidy, and organised. If I were to describe my bookshelf, I would call it a treasure trove of happiness. It has 3 rows: the first two with books and the last one brimming with memories. I like to call it, “The Meaning of My Life” . This rack holds hidden answer sheets, m...

Anne with an E: A Heartfelt Ode of Appreciation

There’s always ‘scope for imagination',  says Anne-Shirley Cuthbert. Indeed. Recently, I stumbled upon this Canadian period drama, ‘Anne with an E’, on Netflix. It is a loose adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic, Anne of Green Gables.  I must say, I have a soft spot for classics and period dramas. Be it Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice or Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women , I have loved the adaptations just as much as I have loved reading the books. While it’s true that the two forms offer different experiences, I think they each carry their own unparalleled charm. When I read, I imagine characters vividly — Lizzy Bennet’s wit, Josephine March’s fire — but watching actresses bring those characters to life adds a new layer of meaning. With Anne with an E , I watched the series before reading the books, but that didn’t stop me from ordering the entire collection and getting lost in its pages. This blog is my way of pouring out everything I felt while watching th...
